Queensland - Open For Business
Natural Disasters Won't Stop Us - Queensland Is Now Open For Business
The Queensland Government has made it a priority to boost the tourism ecnomony throughout the state by targeting
our key neighbors in Asia and letting them know that Queensland is open for business.
The start to 2011 in Queensland and in particular Brisbane, Toowoomba and up north was not what everyone was
expecting. The sunshine state, as it is commonly referred to as, went to a natural disaster state with floods,
cyclones and even an earthquake.
As a result, Queensland Tourism has taken an absolute beating in 2011 but with recent fine weather and a
volunteer relief effort that would make any Queenlands proud, the Treasurer and Trade Minister has declared
Queensland is now Open For Business.
Most recently over the Easter period there have been excellent reports of bookings in the major tourist
locations such as:
- Gold Coast;
- Brisbane;
- Sunshine Coast;
- North Queensland; and
- Port Douglas
This recent activity is helping local businesses get back on track to what has been and will continue to be one
of their toughest years in recent memory. There was no shortage of well wishes calling from both interstate of
overseas to all friends and family located in Queensland during the floods and cyclones and as a result people just
stopped going to Queensland for holidays. But the good news is coming across loud and clear and that is Queensland
is open for business.
Southbank pool reopens
In a truly positive sign that Brisbane is getting back on top of
the recent floods in January, one of the children's water playgrounds has reopened.
The very popular Aquativity, which includes fountains, water features and other fun activities for kids, was the
second pool to reopen since the January floods.
This was no small feat either as the flood caused considerable damange, not to mention the sludge that was left
behind when the waters had receded. Everything had to be cleaned with most of the Southbank pool area completely
renewed or replaced. The rest of the pool area that has not been opened back up yet is due to be completed by June
2011. Once again this sends a very strong message to the rest of Australia and to our key partners in Asia that
Queensland is open for business.
For those who are looking to head to Brisbane for a holiday and make use of the wonderful Southbank area, the
Southern Cross Motel and Serviced Apartments are only 1.5km away and we can accommodate
both short term and long term accommodation needs. With Queensland now open for business, the team at the Southern
